It’s snowing!!!

First snow of the year, first snow of this winter actually.

A bummer I can’t go out and enjoy it. I love walking in the snow and feeling the snow beneath my shoes, hear it cracking. It’s my most favorite peaceful sound.

snow-2013Now I am sitting in front of my patio windows. I have opened the patio door and just watch the snow fall. It’s still peaceful. I love the sight. The broken foot allows me (actually forces me) to slow down, which is probably a good thing. I have been running around, organizing my move, doing last-minute London-bucket list type sight-seeing and never sat still. Now I have to. I shall read books that I have started but never finished and organize my photos. And then just watch all that is waiting for me on my DVR. Did I mention I already went through the whole first season of “Dallas”? 😉 It’s a train wreck really. But once you start watching you just can’t stop. Not sure it was much better than the regular reality soap. I think the dialogues were equally “crafted”. I’ll surprise myself with what’s waiting on my DVR for me today. Last week, one of the channels ran a Ryan Gosling special and showed 4 older movies with him. Good time to catch up on those… 🙂

Thank you all for virtually signing my cast! I loved your comments and they made me feel all warm and loved. Thank you!

Please sign my cast!

I wasn’t sure if this should have been post #4 under my “things I cannot make up” header, but then I REALLY want you all to sign my cast! 🙂

castThe 100 Day Challenge will become a new challenge. I broke my right foot yesterday. I would love to be able to tell you that I was doing something heroic like running 18 miles, rock climbing, helping an old lady across the street, etc. But no, I follow the majority of people with accidents and had a stupid accident at home. I fell off a chair while trying to get something on to the top shelf of my closet. And I didn’t even get a nice pedicure beforehand…

There we go, I can’t even break my foot in an imaginative way… Hopefully that means it will heal easily in an equally average way.

Not sure when I will be able to run again, but for now my left arm and left leg muscles will get great strength training from hobbling around the apartment and using a crutch.

I guess I have time now to write all the blog posts that I have been wanting to write all week.

Hobbling on! Please sign my cast! 🙂

Looking for happiness in 2013

I read this beautiful blog post written by The Wellness Warrior earlier this year about happiness.

Happiness – I believe – is not always easy to maintain. In fact, I think it’s hard work, but well worth it.  The Wellness Warrior, Jessica Ainscough, provides us with some steps to help cultivate happiness. I like this as a topic at the end of this year, when so much of my personal work this year was around cultivating happiness and finding out what happiness actually means for me.

Maybe this is something for you to think of in 2013?

Let me share with you The Wellness Warrior’s 10 steps to happiness and please read her full post, she describes the steps beautifully!

  1. Count your blessings.
  2. Control what you can, let go of what you can’t.
  3. Learn to love yourself.
  4. Be kind to yourself.
  5. Spend time with people who make you happy.
  6. Get some perspective.
  7. Eat real food.
  8. Move you ass. Regularly.
  9. Pay it forward.
  10. Get your OM on. Meditate.

Every body needs a different diet

This morning I received another installment of Healthtalks in my inbox. I wanted to share this video with you, because what these 4 lovely healthy ladies have to say is important.

Everybody and literally every body needs a different diet. There is no diet that fits all. Our bodies need to be balanced and that balance can look different at different times in our lives. The ladies who are running Healthtalks all eat differently and they all have different experiences with their diets. That’s what makes this video very amazing to watch.

One thing they all have in common is eating whole foods, healthful foods. Nothing that is processed. One of the ladies calls it “conscious cuisine“, which I think is beautiful.

The Price of going Organic

Here is the old argument why people chose, NOT to eat organic: it’s expensive. More expensive than eating conventionally grown food.

I disagree.

3 weeks ago I embarked on a renewed healthy living journey. This time with much more rigor and boldness than ever before. In my recent post on making healthy choices, I commented on that I am going to eat organic food wherever and whenever possible.

I found that I have been spending much less money on my food since. First of all, I am not buying any unhealthy snacks anymore, that, of course, makes a huge difference. But what I found more surprising is that I am actually spending less money on produce. I used to buy pre-packaged vegetables and fruit  as the supermarket didn’t offer lose produce. Often, I found that these packages were too much for me. Food spoiled and I had to throw it away.

Now I go to a whole foods store that sells organic produce lose. I can now buy only 3 tomatoes if that’s all I need or 2 apples. Since embarking on this healthful journey, I haven’t thrown any food away, nothing has spoiled. And I am spending less money.

I would go with one exception. Meat is more expensive, but I noticed it tastes better (or maybe that’s just my mind playing tricks on me, but it works either way!).

The other point of healthful organic living is avoidance of poisonous chemicals.

Think of all the pesticides and fertilizers found in conventionally grown food,  think of growth hormones, antibiotics, anti-parasite drugs found in animal products. Isn’t avoiding them worth any effort you make in healthful living?

Instead of talking about the price of going organic we should really discuss the cost of NOT going organic. That’s the thought I would like to leave you with today!
